National Certificate in Security Level 3

Further study in security.

If you have completed your National Certificate in Security Level 2 and are interested in taking your security studies further then you should consider the National Certificate in Security Level 3.

C4 Group Ltd has consent to assess from the New Zealand Qualifications Authority under Section 252 of the Education Act 1989 for all unit standards within this qualification.

So what is in the Level 3? 

The National Certificate in Security Level 3 builds on the Level 2 qualification developing your security knowledge further. It provides knowledge and skills training across a range of areas including:

  • Terrorism
  • Security incidents
  • Emergencies
  • Legal use of force
  • Legal systems
  • Protective security
  • Electronic equipment
  • Personal safety

To complete the qualification one of the following strand options must be chosen:

  • Site Security
  • Mobile Patrols
  • Retail Security
  • Court Security
  • Noise Control 
  • Community Security
  • Event Security
  • Secure Transport


We suggest that you chose a strand that relates to the area you currently work in. Once you have completed the full qualification you are then able to enrol in further strands.

You must have completed the National Certificate in Security Level 2 to be able to enrol in this qualification. Please note C4 does not currently enrol international students.



This is mainly a distance programme with the exception of the following module which is classroom based:

  • Use of Force (2 days)

The Use of Force 2 day course is currently run in Auckland only throughout the year but based on demand can be run in other areas.



There is a minimum completion time of 6 months if you enrol directly with C4. If subsidy is accessed there is a minimum completion time of 11 months and a maximum completion time of 13 months.
