National Certificate in Security Level 4


The National Certificate in Security Level 4 is designed for those in Senior Security or Team Leader positions within the security industry. It can either be completed as a progression from Levels 2 and 3 or as a stand alone qualification and provides knowledge and skills training across a range of areas including:

  • Protective Security 
  • Legal Systems 
  • Law 
  • Security Incidents
  • Occupational Health and Safety Practice
  • Interpersonal Communications
  • Investigation process and evidence preservation
  • Time management and work planning
  • Leading a security team
  • Security risks at specified workplaces
  • Employee relationship management
  • Coordinated Incident Management Systems (2)
  • Coordinated Incident Management Systems (4)


C4 Group Ltd has consent to assess from the New Zealand Qualifications Authority under Section 252 of the Education Act 1989 for all unit standards within this qualification.

COURSE COSTS: $2000 (incl GST)

As this is a part time course Student Loans are not available. However, there is now a subsidy of $500 available on completion of this programme(conditions apply).


THIS IS A WORK-BASED PROGRAMME ONLY AND YOU MUST BE EMPLOYED IN THE SECURITY INDUSTRY TO BE ABLE TO ENROLL IN THIS COURSE. It is recommended that you will already have gained the National Certificates in Security Levels 2 and 3 . However you are able to enrol directly into this qualification and throughout the course you will have the option of completing selected strands. As this is a senior security qualification those enroling should have a strong background in security and be in either a senior security  or team leader position. Please go to our Student Information page for generic requirements for direct entry to an NZQA course. Please note C4 does not currently enrol international students.

As the course is modular you can join at any time during the year. It is delivered over twelve months with some distance learning and one day per month facilitated classroom time (8 hours). The CIMS 4 module is a two day course and these are run monthly. Currently this is delivered in Auckland only however if you are interested in courses for Wellington or Christchurch please let us know.


There is a minimum completion time of 8 months for this qualification with C4. If subsidy applies, the course is a minimum of 12 months and a maximum of 15 months.
